The Academy and ABC Announce the 96th Oscars Key Dates

On Monday, April 24th, 2023, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC announced that the 96th Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 10th, 2024. The ceremony will again air live on ABC and more than 200 territories worldwide from the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood.

Academy key dates for the 2023 Oscar season are as follows:

All dates for the 96th Academy Awards are subject to change.

For reference, the 95th Oscars were held on March 12th, 2023; the 94th Oscars were held on March 27th, 2022; the 93rd Oscars were held on April 25th, 2021; the 92nd Oscars were held on February 9th, 2020; the 91st Oscars were held on February 24th, 2019, and the 90th Oscars were held on March 4th, 2018.

The March 10th ceremony date for the 96th Oscars will place the Academy Awards during the Glasgow Film Festival and SXSW.

Previous announcements from The Academy this year included the creation of the Production and Technology Branch and the appointment of Meredith Shea as its first Chief Membership, Impact, and Industry Officer.

The Production and Technology Branch consists of 400 individuals previously considered Members-at-Large. It includes chief technology officers, senior department heads in technology and creative services, and preservation and restoration specialists. In addition, credited production roles, including stunt coordinators, script supervisors, choreographers, music supervisors, colorists, line producers, and associate producers.

Shea's role is to strategize and implement methods for The Academy's new member process, awards administration, rules and regulations, membership branch structure changes, engagement in both the Academy's membership and in the film industry, strategies for film festivals and international markets, oversee talent development programs, and industry Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion and sustainability efforts. Shea previously served as Director of Industry Relations at ARRAY, the Academy's Directors, Film Editors, Short Films & Feature Animation and Writers branches for a decade and has participated in industry panels such as the Directors Guild of Emerica, Producers Network Marché du Film at Festival de Cannes, Mifa at Annecy International Animation Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, and Flanders CONNeXT at Film Fest Gent. She has also served on numerous film festival juries and began her career at the Everett Collection to preserve films and manage the archives.
