PS Plus: May 2024 Games Include Football, Loot & More!
Sony has unveiled the free games lineup for PlayStation Plus subscribers for May 2024, offering a diverse selection across the sports simulation, looter shooter, isometric adventure, and first-person shooter genres that should be more than enough to keep PlayStation fans busy throughout the month.
EA Sports FC 24 (PS4 & PS5)
Watch the gameplay trailer here.
Formerly known as EA Sports FIFA, the latest version of EA Sports' popular soccer (er, sorry, football) simulation franchise, EA Sports FC 2024, will arrive on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on May 7th and remain playable until June 17th. It features what fans liked about FIFA and put it in a brand new kit (I'm told this means the same as a uniform).
PS Plus members will also receive a PlayStation Plus Ultimate Team Starter Pack with 11 untradable players rated 82 or higher, alongside "one of football's all-time greats" (Messi?) as an ICON Loan Player Pick for seven games. This bundle will be available on the PlayStation Store on May 7th.
Destiny 2: Lightfall (PS4 & PS5)
Watch the reveal trailer here.
For Guardians who missed last year's expansion for Destiny 2, Lightfall features a new campaign, a new Strand power, and a new neon metropolis to explore.
Interestingly enough, this is the second time this year that Sony has included an expansion of Destiny 2 in the monthly PS Plus lineup. In March 2024, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen was available. I assume it's to get Destiny 2 players caught up before the latest expansion, The Final Shape, releases on June 4th.
Please note: You do need to own Destiny 2, which you can get for free on the PlayStation Store. I recommend playing the other five expansions before this.
Tunic (PS4 & PS5)
Watch the trailer from the June 2022 State of Play here.
For those who didn't play this when it launched on Xbox Game Pass in March 2022 and missed it when it launched on PS4 & PS5 that September, Tunic joins the PS Plus collection on May 7th and is playable until June 3rd for both PS4 and PS5. From what little I played of the game when it launched on Game Pass, it reminded me of the isometric entries in The Legend of Zelda franchise, particularly Minish Cap. So, if that's a game style you love, remember to download it this May.
Ghostrunner II (PS5)
Watch the launch trailer here.
Only six months after release, Ghostrunner II arrives exclusively for PS5 on May 7th and will be available for PS Plus subscribers until June 3rd. I don't know much about this one outside of the trailers, which give me John Wick + Superhot vibes, but if you liked the first game and were waiting for the sequel to go on sale, it sounds like you won't have to wait much longer.
All these fantastic games are available through the PS Plus Essential, the entry-level PlayStation Plus tier. If you're subscribed to a higher tier like Extra or Premium, you can play EA games like F1 23, NFS Unbound, and other isometric games like The Gardens Between and the original Ghostrunner.
With such a wide-spanning selection of games as part of the PS Plus monthly collection, I'm sure everyone can find something to play. So, mark your calendars and add these games to your PlayStation Store wishlists because all of these games become available for download starting May 7th and remain available until June 3rd (or June 17th for EA Sports FC 24).
Remember to download April's games!
While I'm talking about the lineup for May 2024, this is an excellent time to remind anyone reading this that you have until May 6th to add Immortals of Aveum, Minecraft Legends, and Skul: The Hero Slayer to your game library.
Which game are you most excited about? Have you played any of these titles before? Please share your thoughts in the comments below, and let's discuss!
As for me, I'll be checking out both Ghostrunner games and Tunic.
Until next time!
