Samsung Refreshes Their Smart Monitors with Four New Colors
Samsung Electronics America announced today that their Smart Monitor lineup will be updated with new colors with the M8 series, which allows for the same smart TV experience users will be familiar with if they've ever used a Samsung Smart TV, seamless workspace connectivity and video calling functionality, all embedded into a monitor screen. The new M8 furthers Samsung's slim design with four new colors - Warm White, Sunset Pink, Daylight Blue, and Spring Green - and is available to pre-order now starting at $699.99 in the 32-inch model that includes 4K resolution, HDR10+, and a SlimFit Cam with face tracking and auto-zoom (hello Center Stage!) functions.
“We aspired to create a product capable of matching the lifestyles of all kinds of people and preferences,” said Kyounghoon Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Design Team, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “The M8’s palette of four colors was inspired by the theme ‘Shades of Nature.’ Gazing at the clear blue sky on a bright sunny day, recharging in the lush green forest, or finally bathing in the glow of a sunset,” he added.
For those who are unfamiliar with Samsung's Smart Monitors, the company introduced the series of monitors in November 2020 as a "do-it-all" monitor designed for both work functionality and entertainment when off the clock. With the M8, this monitor now includes Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Apple TV via Wi-Fi. Samsung TV Plus is also available for free live and on-demand streaming content and a Universal Guide to provide users with personalized content recommendations.
In addition to functionality, the Smart Monitor M8 is 75% slimmer than previous models, clocking at 11.4mm, and features a flat-back design.
For those looking to get work done from home, the M8 Smart Monitor can connect to various devices through the upgraded Smart Hub. There's also a new Workspace feature that allows for remote PC access, Microsoft 365, and Samsung DeX. Oh, and for those worried about having to buy new cables for this monitor, don't worry! The M8 Smart Monitor can use its USB-C port for power, data transfers, and as a display cable.
Need to hop on a Zoom meeting and can't remember where you put your webcam? With the M8 Smart Monitor, you can attach the magnetic and removable SlimFit Cam as needed to the monitor. Need to get up and active? No sweat! The SlimFit Cam can track your face and auto-zoom. You can also use video apps like Google Duo for meetings with friends or work meetings using the SlimFit Cam.
Are you obsessed with the Internet of Things? Samsung has you covered with an included IoT hub called SmartThings Hub, where users can connect all of their IoT devices wirelessly. Furthermore, the SmartThings app allows users to track those same devices throughout their house easily with the app's control panel that highlights all information provided by other devices that are connected to the M8, including things like light switches and plug power.
Want to yell at your monitor? Samsung has you covered there too! The M8 includes a high-sensitivity Far-Field Voice microphone, so you can use voice commands to control Bixby and Amazon Alexa. Additionally, you can use Bixby even when the screen is turned off using the Always-On Voice function, and Bixby will display the conversation information on screen.
“The M8 series is designed to meet the needs of today’s consumers now that the home has become the center of life, including work as well as leisure,” said Mark Quiroz, Vice President of Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. “Our goal is to ensure that people don’t have to choose between technology devices. With our new Smart Monitor, they really can do it all from one single screen as we’ve equipped it with all the necessary tools and features needed to seamlessly transition between work, entertainment, and learning.”
Some other random cool things this monitor can do is something called "adaptive picture technology", which sounds like fl.ux, as it automatically adjusts the display brightness and color temperature. Included with the M8 is a height-adjustable stand (HAS) and tilt functionality, allowing for flexibility to find the right position for every project, binging session, or cramming for that paper that's due in an hour.
