The 2023 Critics Choice Awards Winners

One of the biggest critics groups with over 600 critics in their membership, the Critics Choice Association (CCA) is a big forecaster of who will walk away with the Oscars each awards season. In its 28th year, the Critics Choice Association increased its Best Picture nominees from 10 to 11 films due to a tie and increased the Best Director slots to 10.

The top winner of the 2023 Critics Choice Awards was A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once with five wins: Best Picture, Best Editing, Ke Huy Quan for Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, Best Director and Original Screenplay for the duo collectively known as the Daniels. In addition, two films won two categories each, with Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery winning Best Comedy and Acting Ensemble and RRR winning Best Original Song and Best Foreign Language Film. Continuing her streak of awards season history was Angela Bassett’s win for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, setting up that Bassett could be nominated for Oscar gold this March, a first for any actor or actress in an Marvel Studios film. Speaking of actors and actresses, Brendan Fraser and Cate Blanchett won Best Actor and Best Actress for The Whale and Tár respectively.

Moving onto the world of TV, fan-favorites like Better Call Saul, Abbott Elementary, and The Dropout won in a big way. Better Call Saul won Best Drama Series, with Bob Odenkirk and Giancarlo Esposito winning for Best Actor in a Drama Series and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series respectively. Abbott Elementary continued its forward momentum of award wins with Best Comedy Series and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Sheryl Lee Ralph. The Dropout took home Best Limited Series and Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Amanda Seyfried. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story surprised with two wins: Best Movie Made for Television and Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television for Daniel Radcliffe.
