The Sundance Institute Details Satellite Screens, Online Platform, Health Safety, & Ticketing Options for The 2022 Sundance Film Festival

Today, the nonprofit organization Sundance Institute shared several key details for how their 2022 Sundance Film Festival will take place both in-person and online from January 20th to January 30th, 2022, including this year's Satellite Screen partners and locations, ticket package details, when date tickets will go on sale, and elaborated on the previously announced health and safety guidelines.

Our programming team, led by the fearless Kim Yutani, is deep into screening the mountain of submissions we have already received this year. As our press and industry offices open in preparation for the next edition of our festival we are excited to share what details we can today, anticipate sharing more as we know more, and can’t wait to meet audiences wherever they are, including in Utah, in January.

Platform Now Live

As of today, Sundance's Festival digital platform they used for Sundance 2021 is available for anyone's perusal. This year, this will serve as a hub of sorts where you can buy tickets, explore Festival programming, watch films and other content online, and talk with other Sundance participants. Today's launch includes a trailer for the 2022 festival, a preview of all this year's ticket offerings (available starting in December), a comprehensive how-to fest guide for both the online and in-person experiences, and an explanation of Sundance's latest health and safety measures. In the months upcoming, Sundance will update the platform with key updates alongside the full 2022 Sundance Film Festival program, short films, TV episodes, and New Frontier projects.

Satellite Screen

This year, seven independent arthouse movie theaters (down from last year's 30) across the United States have been selected by Sundance to showcase a Sundance-curated selection of Festival films and offer local audiences to connect during the Festival's closing weekend, Friday, January 28, through Sunday, January 30, 2022. The selected Satellite Screen theaters are:

Ticket Packages & On Sale Dates

The full program of the 2022 Festival will be offered to attendees, whether they're in Utah or online. This year, Sundance will include a broad range of ticketing options in an effort that Sundance says is to ensure that "everyone from the fanatic to the casually curious can participate at levels that make sense for them", with individual tickets starting at $20. After an early access sale for Sundance Circle members on October 15th, package sales and/or selection will begin on December 15th for Sundance Circle, Storyteller, and Supporter members and December 17th for the general public. Individual ticket sales will open for Institute Members beginning on January 5th, and for the public on January 6th. Satellite Screens will be independently ticketed according to Sundance, so my guess is your mileage may vary there. For details on Institute membership visit Sundance.org/membership. Each ticket product has limitations on the number of units that may be purchased. Ticket products include:

Health Safety

As Sundance announced this August, the Institute will require all Sundance attendees to be fully vaccinated; further details on policies and specifics are below; with more to be shared by Sundance as needed in the coming months.

Full COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

Sundance is required that all participants attending the Festival - or Festival-sanctioned events - in person in Utah to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccinee that is approved by the World Health Organization. All vaccinations must be completed at least two weeks prior to travel to the 2022 Festival. The CDC notes that being vaccinated greatly reduces your likelihood of contracting or transmitting the COVID-19 virus. Vaccination maintains your own health and safety, and reduces transmission rates within spaces and at events. Sundance will share information on how to provide proof of vaccination closer to the Festival.

Masks

Sundance is requiring that masks are worn at all times indoors and in queuing lines (including tents, restrooms, and temporary structures). Masks must be worn to enter these spaces. Sundance recommends mask be worn in all other outdoor settings, noting that this an important safety measure that not only benefits you but those around you.

The 2022 Sundance Film Festival is a program of the non-profit Sundance Institute. 2022 Festival sponsors include: Presenting Sponsors – Acura, AMC+, Chase Sapphire, Adobe; Leadership Sponsors – Amazon Studios, DoorDash, Dropbox, Netflix, Omnicom Group, WarnerMedia, XRM Media; Sustaining Sponsors – Aflac, Audible, Canada Goose, Canon U.S.A., Inc., Dell Technologies, IMDbPro, Michelob ULTRA, Rabbit Hole Bourbon & Rye, Southwest Airlines®, Unity Technologies, University of Utah Health, White Claw Hard Seltzer; Media Sponsors – The Atlantic, IndieWire, Los Angeles Times, NPR, Shadow And Act, Variety, Vulture.
