74th Emmy Awards Nominees

Today, the Television Academy announced its nominees for the 74th Emmy Awards, celebrating new and returning programs and the platforms they're distributed on.

Announcing the nominees were JB Smoove and Melissa Fumero, as well as Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma.

Watch the announcement video below.

This year, the top spot goes to HBO's Succession with 25 nominations, followed by Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso and HBO's The White Lotus with 20 nominations each, HBO's Hacks and Hulu's Only Murders in the Building with 17 nominations each, and HBO's Euphoria with sixteen nominations.

"Television continues to keep the world entertained, informed, and connected. With production at a historic high, the Academy has received a record number of Emmy submissions this season," said Scherma. "As we prepare for the entertainment industry's" biggest night, we are thrilled to honor the innovators, creators, performers, and storytellers who are propelling this platinum age of television."

This Emmy season proves to be a banner year for women in television. Nearly half of the directors nominated in the scripted directing categories with women. In the scripted writing categories, almost 40% of the nominations were women. Of this year's nominees for Outstanding Writing, 34% were women in all categories.

As for newcomers, 50 first-time performers were nominated, such as Chadwick Boseman for What If...?, Jennifer Coolidge for The White Lotus, Elle Fanning for The Great, Andrew Garfield for Under the Banner of Heaven, Jung Ho-Yeon for Squid Game, Oscar Isaac for Scenes From A Marriage, Lily James for Pam & Tommy, Lee Jung-Jae for Squid Game, Barack Obama for Our Great National Parks, Sheryl Lee Ralph for Abbott Elementary, Adam Scott for Severance, Sebastian Stan for Pam & Tommy, Peter Sarsgaard for Dopesick, Amanda Seyfried for The Dropout, and Sydney Sweeney for both Euphoria and The White Lotus.

Speaking of multiple nominees this year, individuals with multiple nominations this year include Jason Bateman for his performance and direction for Ozark, Quinta Brunson for her performance and writing for Abbott Elementary, Nicole Byer for her hosting and writing for Nicole Byer: BBW (Big Beautiful Weirdo), Jerrod Carmichael for his performance on Saturday Night Live and writing for Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel, Julia Garner for her performances on Ozark and Inventing Anna, Bill Hader for his performance, writing and direction on Barry and performance for Curb Your Enthusiasm, Steve Martin for his performance and writing on Only Murders in the Building, Amy Poehler for her hosting on Making It and directing for Lucy and Desi, Rhea Seehorn for her performances on Better Caul Saul and Cooper's Bar, Harriet Walter for her performances on Ted Lasso and Succession and Zendaya for her performance, music, and lyrics on Euphoria.

It's important to note that while the Television Academy has announced these nominations, names or titles may change as the Television Academy's Emmy Awards Committee votes on the nominees. The way the Emmys nomination works, a producer's eligibility is determined mainly on their title, with producer nominees being announced by mid-August and may alter the number of multiple nominees. The final round of online voting begins on August 12th, 2022.
