Everything You Need to Know About the 93rd Oscars
After a year of numerous films being delayed, sent to streaming services, premium rentals, how has The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Science (most times simplified to The Academy) reacted?
For starters, The Academy introduced a provisional rule for the 93rd Oscar nominees that stated that as long as the film was available on the Academy Screening Room within 60 days of the film's streaming/VOD release, it was no eligible, as long as the film was originally set to debut in theaters between January 1st, 2020 and midnight of February 28th, 2021 (adjusted from the usual December 31st). As a result, The Academy moved the 93rd Oscars ceremony to Sunday, April 25th, 2021 (adjusted from the originally scheduled February 28th date). Then, The Academy hired Jesse Collins (63rd Grammy Awards, Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show, among many other awards shows like the BET Awards), Stacey Sher, producer/executive producer of films such as Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight, Contagion, Garden State, Man on the Moon, Out of Sight, and Steven Soderbergh, director of films like Traffic, Erin Brokovich, sex, lies, and videotape, and so many other exception films. From there, The Academy decided to get rid of presenters and treat the ceremony more as a "awards-show-as-a-movie", calling this year's presenters an "ensemble cast".
How Can I Watch the 93rd Oscars?
The 93rd Oscars will be broadcast live on ABC from both the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and Los Angeles' Union Station on Sunday, April 25th, with ABC's annual 3-hour broadcast, "Oscars® Countdown, LIVE!" at 1 PM Eastern, with ABC News Live following with a 2-hour special from 4:30 PM Eastern to 6:30 PM, which is when the red-carpet begins and the ceremony (going without a host for the 2nd year in a row) begins at 8 PM Eastern. You can watch on ABC's website, the ABC app (TV provider required), or stream through AT&T TV ($70/month), FuboTV ($65/month), Hulu Live TV ($65/month), or YouTube TV ($65/month).

Where can I find reviews for the nominees?
Well, right here. Leading up to Oscar Sunday, I'll be publishing reviews for Oscar-nominated films and updating the below section as they release. For my Minari review, check out my review over on SiftPop.
How can you make your predictions?
Download the below ballot (provided by ABC), watch the nominees above (to the best of your ability) and play along during the ceremony!
I also have a ballot provided to me by the movie-tracking service, Letterboxd. Whether you're at your computer writing a dissertation on why Gulliver's Travels was a misunderstood masterpiece, wanted to jog down some quick thoughts on Godzilla vs. Kong on your iPhone, iPad or Android device, or just got done watching Nomadland on your Apple TV, Letterboxd has you covered! Plus, you can see what your friends are watching, comment on their reviews, make ranked lists, and save a movie for later through the watchlist feature. I personally use the app anytime I'm about to sit down and watch something. So, go and your next movie now.
What is Austin B Media doing for the 93rd Oscars?
I am very happy to report that I will be covering the 93rd Oscars as a member of the press. I can't say exactly what that looks like, as this is my first year covering the Oscars, but I'll let you know on both here and on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, so check back if you're interested in that coverage.
